Birth Story- A Little Miracle!

I am sharing this info because, like Steph, I always enjoy hearing about the birth and how it went. Plus, this little girl's entry into the world was a little miracle for me.

I have to admit that with everything that has happened this pregnancy, I was an emotional wreck about giving birth. I could not picture going to the hospital one more time to go through what I knew was going to be horrible pain. Then, when we learned she was breech, I really fell apart. Miracle of miracles, my doctor was actually willing to deliver a breech baby, which is very unusual in this day. But at the same time he was preparing me for a c-section. It just seemed as though nothing was going as smoothly as I had hoped.

I had an appointment on July 9, the day before my due date and I was pretty tired of being pregnant at this point. Plus, the bigger the baby got, the harder a breech delivery would be. The doctor had me scheduled to be induced the next day, but also stripped my membranes while I was there.

That evening, about 6:00, I started having contractions. We got the girls together and took them to Brooke's for a slumber party and headed to the hospital. I was dialated to a six when I got to the hospital. I wasn't having really consistent contractions because Kendi was breech, so they started me on pitocin. At about 10:00 they gave me an epidural (recommended by the doc, in case they needed to do a c-section). I had never had one before, but highly recommend them!!! Not too long after that, my water broke and not too long after that, the doctor showed up to deliver the baby.

I was quite the novelty at the hospital since Kendi was breech. All the nurses wanted to watch the delivery and I had quite the audience. Apparently there were about 9 c-sections delivered there that day and the only vaginal delivery was my breech baby.

Kendi arrived after only about 3 pushes and came out perfectly at 11:34pm! And I didn't even tear! No one could believe it. The doctor said she had a short umbilical cord, thus not allowing her to turn.

She was nicknamed the "pretzel baby" by the nurses because her little legs are used to being stuck up by her chin and can't seem to come down very well. It is so cute!

We came home 24 hours after she was born and are very happy to be here. I am so grateful for all the prayers-- they were answered! I couldn't have planned a better labor and delivery myself than the way it went! A precious miracle!!

PS For anyone who knows Shannon Davis, she had a c-section the same day as I did and delivered a baby boy! Congrats to the Davis family!
