Does anyone have any great ways to clean out a garbage disposal? Kira and Brandon have very sensitive noses and complain to me frequently that the sink smells. Nothing I have tried so far seems to really work. Any ideas?

Put lemon or orange peels down the garbage disposal and run it. Or, baking soda and vinegar and let it fizz and sit for a while.

Try GARBAGE DISPOSAL CLEANER by Spring Again. I found it at wallmart, the smaller one on American Pacific. This is what it says on the lable "cleaner, fresher, healthier kitchen sink in 10 seconds" also "95% more effective than home remedies"
I love BAR KEEPER's FRIEND for cleaning my sink basins.
I love Bar Keeper's Friend too for cleaning the sink.
I heard that before you run the disposal you are supposed to fill the sink with water so that when you run the disposal it "flushes" all the stuff down the drain so it doesn't smell.
I've also tried "Plink", but it didn't work too well. I think Hydrogen Peroxide will work too, but I haven't tried that yet. (and it's only .67 cents for a bottle)
i always do the baking soda and vinegar...but then you do get some of the vinegar smell.
I use ice, and lemons. It works just as well as anything else I have tried. Yum. Lemonade for the fishies!!
P.S. Please do not cut any part of your very valuable arm off trying to clean down inside there.

I'm always cleaning our sink with bleach cleaner. It seems to keep it from smelling. I also put orange peels down the disposal. It freshens it up now and then. But I've never tried anything made to clean disposals. I'm sure those are great too.
The garbage disposal cleaner stuff works, my sister loves it. But I use orange peels and that works well for me. The blog looks great-- I love it!
I've always just done the orange peels thing, but I'm glad you wrote this on your blog so I can see what other people do. I need help with a cleaning thing as well...maybe I will post it on my blog. Your arm looks great!! I totally understand the therapy thing and I'm glad you're doing better.
We read somewhere about the chemicals that are used to clean the garbage disposals being toxic. So they recomended that you just use ice. It makes a loud noise, but is supose to be just as effective. Oh! and they said to avoid putting certian things down there...I think one was raw chicken.
